Increase your success at LCA by improving your English!
LCA is excited to introduce a new Supplemental English Language Learning program, to complement our day-to-day English immersion. This is designed specifically for students seeking to enhance their English language skills for academic success. Priced at $1,500 per semester, this program is tailored for students who wish to bolster their English proficiency to thrive at LCA. This program offers a comprehensive suite of resources and instructional materials that will support students' language development journey. Key components of the program include:
Screening Materials
These tools are designed to assess students' initial English language proficiency, helping us tailor the learning experience to each student's starting point. Through a detailed evaluation, we identify specific areas of strength and improvement, ensuring a focused and effective learning path.
Small Group Curriculum
For more personalized attention, our small group curriculum offers targeted instruction that addresses specific language learning needs. With a lower student-to-teacher ratio, these sessions allow for deeper exploration of language concepts, providing opportunities for intensive practice and feedback.
Progress Monitoring
Regular assessments are crucial in tracking student progress and adjusting teaching strategies as needed. Our materials are crafted to provide clear, actionable insights into each student's development, fostering continuous growth in their language skills.
Large Group Curriculum
Engaging and interactive, our large group sessions focus on building foundational English language skills through thematic, content-based learning. These sessions promote communication and cultural understanding within a supportive classroom environment, encouraging students to practice and apply their language skills in real-world contexts.
How it Works
Schedule
Testing
- Two 80-minute sessions per week, along with a 40-minute session on Fridays, amount to a total of 200 minutes weekly, which equals over 3 hours.
- Additionally, there will be daily after-school tutoring from Monday to Friday, specifically tailored for ESL students, from 3:15 to 3:45, to assist with homework from other classes.
Structure
- The class will involve whole-group instruction with a maximum of 10 students.
- There will be 1 to 3 small group sessions per week (consisting of 2 to 4 students) depending on individual needs.
- Throughout the semester, there will be 2 to 3 tests conducted.
- This includes a comprehensive English screener at the beginning of each semester to cater to customized instructional needs, a progress monitoring test in the middle of the semester, and a summative English test at the end of the semester.
- The summative test will assess growth, identify next steps, and determine readiness to exit the ESL program or continue for another semester.
- Typically, level 1 ELL students require a minimum of one school year to acquire a new language.
- Students returning for the following semester will not undergo another screener; instead, data from the summative test will be utilized.
- Progress monitoring will occur midway through the second semester, with a summative English test at the semester's end.
Cost and Support
- The cost will cover all curriculum materials and testing.
- Any necessary modifications will be communicated to general education teachers to ensure the success of ESL students in their classes.
