Thursday Notes: January 23, 2020
“You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock” (Isaiah 26:3-4)
The Hebrew word for the phrase “stayed on” that’s used in this verse is Samak, which means “to brace, uphold, support.” In other words, those with minds fully braced, upheld, and supported by Truth and trust in God will be kept in perfect peace.
The English phrase “perfect peace” means an “all-embracing peace.” It is God giving us the strength internally to face whatever comes our way externally.
This doesn’t mean our circumstances will feel peaceful. It doesn’t mean all our relationship troubles and hardships suddenly get better. Nor does it mean the prayers we pray suddenly all get answered. But what it does mean is our minds can be steadied with Truth instead of overrunning with thoughts of fear, anxiety, and worst-case scenarios.
Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (ESV). The same God who rescued David from Saul, who split the Red Sea so the children of Israel could safely pass through, and the One who promises strength to His people through Isaiah — He is the same God you can trust with your life.

Short Term Hosting Opportunity
LCA is in need of short-term host families for a group of Japanese teachers coming to visit our school for 1 week in February. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience a new culture, make new friends, and have a lot of fun! These adult female teachers will arrive on February 8 and stay until February 15. The requirements for our host families are to bring the teachers to LCA each morning by 8:30 am and pick them up at 3:30 pm. You would also provide dinner for them each evening and meals on the weekend. Compensation is provided. Again, this is a great, short-term opportunity for you and your family to experience another culture and get to know these amazing ladies who are coming to learn from our teachers at LCA! If you have any questions or are interested in hosting, please contact Karen Miller at Kar[email protected]. Thanks SO much in advance for your help!
Celebration of Life
The Sligar Family will be holding a Celebration of Life Memorial in the loving memory of their beloved husband and father, David Sligar. Dave was a familiar face around LCA and husband to our Preschool Director, Cheryl Sligar, and father to a 3rd-grade teacher, Heather Sligar, and International Student Liaison, Jenn Malone. The service will be held Saturday, Feb.15th at 10:00 am. Please come and celebrate with the family. All are invited and welcome!

Traffic Flow
Attached is a flow chart for traffic here at LCA. If you are entering from the west or exiting to go west, please use the west entrance/exit. If you are entering from the east or exiting to go east, please do so using the east entrance/exit. Also, in the mornings, we have a “drive-thru” drop-off zone. This is for parents that are not exiting their car but just dropping off their students at the door. If you plan on getting out of the car with your student, please use the other lane to go around and park your vehicle in the parking spots. We want to keep our kids safe and appreciate you helping us to do so.
